Instant Disaster Recovery

vStandby AIP: add-on module to ActiveImage Protector

2 Minute downtime – Near-line availability

Create standby virtual machines of mission critical servers in a VMware ESXi hypervisor for cost effective with standby availability protection.

Flexibility & performance

Works alongside ActiveImage Protector and can be installed on any machine on the network. Choose which protected VM or physical machines are critical and create standby virtual machines ready to boot in case of disaster.

Instant availability for Windows and Linux source machines

Create standby virtual machines of all Windows and Linux machines on the network with one single vStandby AIP licence to ensure you can be up and running in no time.

Use the Standby Virtual Machine in VMware or Hyper-V

vStandby supports the paid and free licence versions of VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V. See documentation for complete details.

Revive physical machines in no time

Restore a vStandby virtual machine, including all the changes made while in operation, back to the original physical hardware if needed.

Standby Virtual Machine is automatically updated

Standby Virtual Machines (SVM) are automatically updated when incremental files are added to your backup chain. Choose a Point-in-Time to boot in case of disaster. You can even change it afterwards should you have booted the wrong one.

  • Asynchronous replicas sent directly to a VMware ESXi or Hyper-V host
Your physical and virtual machines are replicated directly to an ESXi or Hyper-V host (please specify your preference when ordering), creating dormant standby virtual machines that are ready for instant switchover when the source machine fails.
  • Multiple recovery points
Choose any boot point you want to use when booting a vStandby machine on a regular VMware ESXi and Microsoft Hyper-V hosts. For the free version of ESXi, vStandby will always boot from the latest boot point taken.
  • Non-intrusive failover testing
vStandby machines can be boot-tested without interrupting your failover process, ensuring your peace of mind.
  • Failback solution included
If you need to restore back to your original hardware, vStandby includes a recovery environment to restore your replacement virtual server, including all the changes made, back to the original physical hardware.
  • Minimal disk space requirements
Disk space requirements are minimised thanks to NetJapan’s inline P2V technology that can convert from a physical to a virtual machine without a pre-existing backup image.
  • Compliance: Test your Business Continuity Plan (BCP)
With vStandby you can regularly test your Business Continuity Plan in minutes, helping you comply with government business continuity regulations.

Why should I use vStandby AIP if I already have vStandby feature in ActiveImage Protector?

How can you use vStandby AIP?

Scenario 1: Onsite Instant Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

  1. ActiveImage Protector is installed on one of several servers and creates automatic backup files saved on a NAS.
  2. vStandby AIP is installed on another machine on the network to create standby virtual machines on VMware ESXi or Hyper-V virtual environment. vStandby AIP automatically converts backup files to VMDK or VHD/VHDX snapshot files and update these virtual disks.
vStandby allows you to manage any number of image file sets from an unlimited number of source server or machines.
  3. When a disaster strikes, boot the virtual disk at the chosen recovery point and immediately boot the failed server as a VM.

Downtime is minimal!

Scenario 2: Offsite Instant Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

  1. ActiveImage Protector is installed on one of several servers and creates automatic backup files saved on a NAS.
  2. Use free ImageCenter LE add-on to replicate all image files to the offsite or private cloud destination.
  3. Install vStandby AIP on a machine at the remote location to create standby virtual machines on VMware ESXi or Hyper-V virtual environment. vStandby AIP automatically converts backup files to VMDK or VHD/VHDX snapshot files and update these virtual disks.
vStandby allows you to manage any number of image file sets from an unlimited number of source server or machines.
  4. When a disaster strikes, boot the virtual disk at the chosen recovery point and immediately boot the failed server as a VM from the remote location.
  5. Setup users to connect to the new remote virtual server.

Reduce downtime and disaster impact!
